Having worked as a business manager for 20 years in the construction industry John’s own experience of addiction led him to found his own rehab centre group Abbey Care Foundation.
John qualified as a counsellor for people with substance misuse during his time working as a therapist and manager for the foundation. He also trained as an interventionist and appeared on ITV as a consultant helping families impacted by addiction.
He founded Detox Plus to provide a place where families and people struggling to find rehab that met their needs could go for advice and options.
John is committed to helping people find the right treatment and a safe comfortable place to recover from addiction.

Irene McLeanFinancial Officer & Director
Irene is Detox Plus’s Financial Officer and co-director. Her role includes guiding and overarching Finance, IT, and HR strategies across the group and its affiliated entities.
Having started out in accounting and finance Irene also specialises in sales, strategic marketing and business management in the care sector for over 20 years.
Irene has extensive experience within the healthcare sector from working within a private addiction recovery clinic for 10 years.
Taking part in various training courses to help support the patients in their recovery. During this time, she qualified in Care Management Level 4 qualification HND.
Irene is dedicated to supporting people to live their lives as independently as they can, keeping them safe, helping them to make choices, and ensuring that they lead full and rich lives in their community.

Dr Olalekan Otulana MBChB, DRCOG, MRCGP, DFSRG, FRSPH, MBAAddiction Specialist Physician
Dr Otulana has specialised in substance misuse management and rehabilitation for 14 years Having previously worked as a general practitioner for the NHS for 15 years he has a wide range of experience in all areas of general medicine.
In addition to being a member of the RCCP in the UK Dr Otulana is certified by the RCGP in Management of Drug misuse.
He also completed a Master of Business MBA at Cabridge Judge Business School and uses his skills and knowledge to manage the materials, information and outreach done by Detox Plus.
Dr Otulana offers consultations and medical advice to clients of Detox Plus who are struggling with addiction and drug and alcohol misuse. His expertise helps our team to meet the medical and physical needs of those in need of detox and rehabilitation.

Fiona Kennedy BA, MAContent & Business Manager
Fiona has been working for Detox Plus since 2020 as an editor and manager for resources and publishing our materials and guides. As an editor and business manager, Fiona ensures that all our materials and outreach are of the highest standard and meet the needs of our clients.
Fiona’s personal experience with addiction in her family led her to work with Detox Plus to help relatives like her own to find a safe and effective treatment for loved ones. She remains committed to raising awareness and opening up people’s options regarding detox, rehabilitation and therapy.

Shannon Davis has been working in the field of substance misuse for the last 20 years. Having spent her teenage years and her 20’s in the chaos of active addiction. She got clean and has been in recovery ever since thanks to rehab.
Shannon spent 15 years as a senior manager for statutory service providers such as Turning Point and CGL. She also has an extensive knowledge of both NHS and private sector treatment.
She has a Level 5 Diploma in the Management of Substance Misuse and an RGCP qualification in the management of drug and alcohol misuse. She has been a CQC Registered Manager of both day and residential treatment services in the public and private sector for many years.

Catherine Barr BA, Dip.CounsAdmissions Manager
Catherine has dedicated the past 19 years to working in the addiction field. Her journey began in 2005, after seeking help she ultimately found her calling in helping others in the same position.

She has worked in social care for over a decade, ranging from supporting children with adverse childhood experiences to assisting individuals in street addiction and private rehabilitation settings.

Caroline Adams BA, HNDNetwork Manager
Caroline has worked as a network and communications manager in addiction recovery and healthcare services for over 10 years. She is dedicated to providing information and outreach for Detox Plus and its partner organizations as well as exemplary communication between clients and partners. Caroline has a bachelor’s degree in business and later completed a diploma in biomedical science while working in the healthcare sector. Her own experience of addiction in her family led her to dedicate her skills to helping Detox Plus to offer services and work with organisations public and private to offer help and support to those in need of rehabilitation.
Nicky Meux MBACPPsychotherapist
Nicky is a former mental health nurse with 30 years of experience helping people with a wide range of addition related issues. As an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy she is trained as a counsellor and therapist. Nicky specialises in CBT and Person-Centred therapy. These are the best regarded approaches to treating addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. Nicky also uses hypnotherapy in selective cases which can be highly effective in treating addiction and dependence. She uses dual diagnosis and works in alcohol/substance misuse, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, stress, self-esteem, grief and relationship difficulties.
